eBay to Force PayPal Payments Only?

eBay & PayPal

eBay & PayPal

Starting in October of 2008 (yes in just a few days), eBay will remove many payment options for most items sold on their auction website leaving only PayPal, ProPay and paying upon pickup.

Is this unfair business practice (or anti-trust)?

I know there are a lot of people that are skeptical about the changes eBay is making to their payment policy, but these changes will definitely increase the security of transactions on eBay. eBay found that items paid for with check or money order are 80 percent more likely to result in an item not received (INR) than those paid with credit card. Also, buyers who pay with check or money order are 50 percent more likely to leave negative feedback than those who pay with electronic methods. So moving to all electronic payment should improve service.

So far, we are the only other payment option that will be accepted besides PayPal, but more should be added starting 2009. We’re excited to be the first option and we look forward to seeing what we can add to eBay. Check us out for more information about ProPay and our eBay merchant account.
